Former prosecutor charged with sex crime makes deal to avoid jail
The former Brooklyn sex crimes prosecutor charged with a sex crime struck a deal Wednesday, avoiding retrial.
Chrismy Sagaille now just has to stay out of trouble for six months, and the charges against him will be dismissed and sealed.
Jurors deadlocked last week following more than 60 hours of deliberation into whether or not he forcibly kissed and groped a Daily News reporter as she drove him home from a mutual friend’s party in April 2017.
Sagaille appeared near tears as he left Brooklyn supreme court Wednesday, murmuring, “I can’t believe this is over.”
The woman, whose name is being withheld due to the nature of the charges, told jurors the ex-prosecutor forced himself on her, kissing her twice and grabbing her breast as she drove toward Canarsie.
Sagaille has since sued the woman and the Daily News for $10 million, citing libel.
“Mr. Sagaille is seeking to repair his reputation and career damaged by what we believe was a frivolous, criminal, court case,” read a statement issued by his spokesman Mike Paul. “Look for much more truth to bubble to the top soon.”
