Wolfeboro Police Chief Robert Copeland Resigned Due To Power Of The Court Of Public Opinion

May 19, 2014

Robert Copeland

Former Wolfeboro New Hampshire Police Commissioner Robert Copeland resigned his post in shame today. Copeland had called the President of the United States, Barack Obama, a NIGGER. And he did so with pride. His hubris was so great he thought he could get away with it as an elected official himself. He obviously did not understand how reputation works. He truly underestimated the power of the court of public opinion versus the court of law, including election law.

Robert Copeland was not tried in legal court nor did he lose in a re-election campaign. He was forced out by a town concerned for its own reputation combined with the pressure of others, including myself, asking for a boycott of Wolfeboro until he resigned. Phone calls came from across the nation to this small town putting great pressure on Copeland to do the right thing. The pressure was immense and the court of public opinion brought its verdict swiftly within days without the cost of a high priced attorney or a flashy political consultant. There is an important lesson here for all. Always remember, your reputation resides in the court of public opinion and NEVER the court of law. Attorneys are not experts in reputation. They never have been and never will be. There focus must always be before a judge or jury. When they seek to do more, they lose their credibility too.

The entire reputation crisis played out in the most powerful court of all: the court of public opinion. So the next time you hear someone say the court of law is more important or powerful than the court of public opinion, just smile. The tipping point is in favor of the court of public opinion and remember it has a verdict every day and with every person on earth as the judge and jury. Why? Because Your Reputation Is Everything!™

Remember, do the right thing when your reputation is in crisis and seek the counsel of an experienced reputation management expert. It will be a major challenge, but ultimately the rewards of repairing your reputation will be great. Why? Because Your Reputation Is Everything!™
